How to set alarm for ATT Samsung Eternity?

I just  got the ATT Samsung Eternity recently(sgreat phone highly recommend!) ,but I’m trying to set the

alarm just to test how loud it is but whenever the its time for the alarm to go off i never does.I have read the

user manual for Samsung Eternity,but I don’t find how to set my alarm.
Do the phone have to be off to sound the alarm?
Please HELP
